Abstract:

    With the explosive growth of information and the drastic amount of smartphones and tablets used all over the world, CAMSS(Cloud, Analytics, Mobile, Social, and Security) has become rapidly widespread. IBM believes that "A new era of computing" has begun.

    Shigeo Uda will introduce a new way of computing to accelerate the transformation of companies to become more efficient and beneficial for the future, such as an approach for obtaining insight and knowledge from Big data, the evolution of the Cloud, and a new partnership between humans and computers created thorough cognitive computing. This presentation also describes the progress and potential of "Watson" ,which won the quiz show "Jeopardy! " in 2011.
    Furthermore, he addresses future cutting-edge technology as well.

Biography:

    Shigeo Uda is the Vice President as CTO of IBM Japan, as well as a member of the Board (Torishimari-yaku). He is also an Executive board member of the IT Coordinator Association.

    He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tokyo in 1983.  After graduating, he joined IBM Japan as a systems engineer and he mostly managed various projects for telecommunication companies. Then he held several client-facing technical management positions in almost all divisions of IBM such as Hardware, Software, and Services.
    From 2000 to 2001, he took the role of Executive Assistant for General Manager of IBM Asia Pacific. After his experience as an Executive Assistant, he then led the Asia Pacific Technical Sales Support team overseeing more than 15 countries including China, India, Australia, and New Zealand, directly reporting to the General Manager of IBM Asia Pacific.
    In 2005, he was appointed to become the Shikko-Yakuin of IBM Japan. Two years later, in 2007, he became the Vice President, Technical Leadership as CTO of IBM Japan, as well as a member of the Board (Torishimari-yaku).
    Currently, his main responsibilities are to align the technical agenda with IBM's business strategy, to be a representative expressing our technological vision, and to promote the skill improvement of the technical employees.
