Abstract:

    Fiona Balfour has led and delivered major business and technology transformations throughout her career. She is a passionate advocate for the role of technology in business driven innovation. This paper will outline how to take a strategy and develop and execute the business plan and transform and reshape businesses. Fiona will use examples from her business experience to illustrate and show case her learnings.

 

Biography:

    Fiona Balfour is a non-executive director with Metcash Limited, Salmat Limited, TAL (Dai-ichi Life) Australia and Airservices Australia. Previous roles include: Director SITA, Geneva, 2001-06; Trustee of the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 2007-10; Councillor of Chief Executive Women, 2006 -09 and 2012-13; Chair of the St James’ King Street Conservation Appeal, 2011-14; and Council Member and Treasurer of Knox Grammar School, Wahroonga, 2009-15.

    Fiona’s executive career was over thirty years in leading the design, development and deployment of global, real-time, operationally critical systems. She was the Chief Information Officer and member of the Executive Committee for Qantas from 2001-06. She was appointed the Chief Information Officer and member of the Senior Leadership Team for Telstra from 2006 -07. She is a passionate advocate for the role of technology in business driven innovation.
    Fiona has lived in Sydney for 30 years. She holds a BA(Hons) from Monash University, a Graduate Diploma in Information Management from UNSW and an MBA from The University of RMIT. She has been a Member of Chief Executive Women since 2002; was awarded the National Pearcey Medal for ‘Lifetime Achievement to the Information Technology Industry’ in 2006; and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. In 2010, she was appointed a Fellow of Monash University in recognition of her service to the Information Technology Industry and the Status of Women.
    Fiona is married to James and they have two children, Emma (21) and David (19). Fiona and James are old skiers, aged tennis players and golf tragics.
